What is blepharoplasty and how is it done?

In upper-lid surgery, excess skin, and a small amount of tissue if needed, is removed through an incision hidden in the natural crease of the lid. In the lower lid, the tissues causing the bags are repositioned; incisions are usually concealed at the lash line or inside the lid.

Planning assesses your lid structure, brow position and facial proportions together. The goal is not to change your expression but to reduce the tired look.

  • Incisions planned into the natural crease
  • Upper and lower lids assessed separately
  • A measured approach that preserves your expression

Hidden incision vs a wider, visible incision

Incision hidden in the crease
Wider, more visible incision
Incision site
Tucked into the lid's natural crease or lash line
A more open line that can run outside the crease
Scar appearance
Set inside the crease, so it tends to fade over time
A mark that can be easier to notice
Planning
Brow, lid and facial proportion assessed together
Focused only on the excess skin
Aim
Keep the expression, reduce the tired look
Higher risk of a noticeable change

The right method depends on the person. The clear answer comes at the examination.

Suitability

Is blepharoplasty right for you?

It is considered for people with upper-lid drooping, excess skin that narrows the field of vision, or visible lower-lid bags. Eye health and general medical history are reviewed at the examination; the clear answer comes from the surgeon's assessment.
